The process will work, but you may have trouble finding XP-compatible drivers. Don't use the ones I posted as they will almost certainly not work.

Do you think this process work with a dv4-2058nr? I'd like to downgrade from w7 to xp, but I don't want to somehow screw up my laptop. I know this is something probably better left to someone who knows computers better than I do, but I'm out of options.

Hi,

found your video of the ip1500 disassembly very useful. Unfortunately, the three carriage springs fell out. Do you have a photo of there position in the printer. many thanks,Dave

Thanks for the information. It will be my next project. I was told by the HP tecks that it was not possible to down grade to a 32 bit system with this PC. Not that I couldnt go to a downgrade of XP but it would have to stay 64 bit. Said it had to do with some of the chips and the processor. I do like this HP laptop pretty well, just 64 bit will not allow me to use very much of my old software. I would never recamond a 64 bit system to anyone, and now im not very happy with HP's Techs. They gave me a lot of BS and took up a lot of my time just to tell me something that you have proven them to be wrong. In a way I like this and in another its wrong for them to not tell the truth. I would have setteled for vista in a 32 bit setup with this PC. Thew blatently told me it was impossible with this model and serial number which is exactly the same as you have described here. I thank you and I will let you know how it turns out when I have downgraded , Thanks again.

Don't listen to the HP Techs, they are only supposed to support Vista now that it's out. I installed 32-bit Windows XP Professional on this laptop and it worked just fine, so yes, it is entirely possible for you to wipe your 64-bit operating system off and install a 32-bit version of Windows XP.

You won't lose any functions if you downgrade, just make sure to get all the drivers (I listed where to get most of them here).

I have a HP Paviliom dv4-1222nr entertainment notebook PC its a 64 bit system. I hate the 64 bit part nothing but problems with using my older software. I want to downgrade to XP 32 bit system. I did call HP service techs and they are telling me that this model that you are talking about here can not be down graded to a 32 bit operating system at all whether its Vista or XP. I have the AMD Processor. By doing what you show here in your step by step process is it possible to downgrade? If I try this process what functions on this laptop will I lose? I have not started the downgrade yet I wanted some answers before I spend all the time it takes to build back to what I have running now.Do I have to stay with 64 bit or is it possible to switch to 32 bit and will the audio SRS premium sound features be lost or are there drivers for this in XP
